Mix up your Mat

The classical Pilates mat repertoire can literally be done just about anywhere. You don't need much space, you don't even really need a mat! It doesn't take much to get to work. In the studio, one of my favorite places to sneak in some extra mat work is on top of the Wunda Chair. Just turn side ways and begin with the 100! Of course, there are a few exercises that require a little extra adjustment to fit onto a small surface so it doesn't flow as smoothly as it does on the mat.

Another great spot to challenge yourself or your client is on top of the Ladder Barrel. Simply start in top as if you were getting ready for horseback, align the spine in the middle of the barrel, lie back and get to work!

Where else could you do practice your mat? The options are endless! There's no excuse when it comes to getting the work in while you're traveling: I've used a padded envelope, a paddle board, a picnic table bench and a coffee table when I've been in a pinch!
